Dusk – Dark Mode for Every Website · Last updated 10 October 2026
In short: Dusk does not collect, send, sell or share any of your data. Everything it does happens inside your browser, on your device.
What Dusk does with web pages
To show a site in dark colours, Dusk reads that page's styles (its colours and layout rules), and in some cases the brightness of the page's own images, inside your browser. This is used only to choose readable colours for that page. None of it leaves your device.
What Dusk stores
Dusk saves the following in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device:
- Your settings: the theme you picked, themes you created, and preferences such as "Match my computer".
- The website addresses (host names) where you turned Dusk on or off, or chose different colours, and pages you turned it off for.
- A note of which websites are already dark, so Dusk can leave them alone.
- A cache of the dark colour styles Dusk generated for websites you visit, so those pages turn dark instantly next time. It is limited in size and replaces the oldest entries first.
This data is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can delete all of it at any time by removing the extension.
What Dusk does not do
- No network requests: Dusk's code is blocked from contacting any server.
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or telemetry.
- No accounts, sign-in or personal information.
- No selling or transferring of data to third parties, and no use of data for any purpose other than showing pages in dark colours.
Permissions
Dusk asks for access to websites only so it can change their colours. You can grant that for all sites, or one site at a time from the Dusk icon, and remove it in your browser's extension settings.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
